Dog Training and Behavior Books

For Dog Training and Behavior books, our most favorite author is Patricia McConnell.  We also like to recommend Ian Dunbar, Jean Donaldson, Turid Rugaas, Pat Miller, Sue Sternberg, Cheryl Smith, Pia Silvani, Temple Grandin and Terry Ryan.  All of these authors are available from:

Dogwise - Dog Books

Merle's Door is one of the most heartwarming books about a relationship between a man and his dog that we have ever read.  This book is available in bookstores and more information is on the author's website:

Ted Kerasote - author of Merle's Door

Dog Adoptions

Jackie Sainsbury has volunteered for the Maxfund since 1993.  She teaches dog behavior and training classes there every other Saturday.  Check out the Maxfund's website for more information:

The Maxfund Volunteers Page

If you would like to see which pets are up for adoption, please check out the Maxfund's main site:

The Maxfund

Jackie also volunteers for The Rocky Mountain Lab Rescue.  It's a new and small organization, so the more donations they get, the more dogs and puppies they can save.  They have already saved over 30 dogs in a very short period of time, but two of the dogs now need surgery to be able to have a long and happy life.  Please check out their webpage:
